A neotenic species of salamander that does not go through metamorphosis.
The species originates from the lake underlying Mexico City and is also
called ajolote (which is also the common name for the Mexican Mole Lizard)

Due to pollution these creatures are nearing extinction. Please help by
not going to Mexico and not introducing the waters with nonnative fish
such as the African Tilapia and Asian Carp, which have been eating the
axolotl's babies.
